Music Program

Livermore Valley Charter Prep High School (LVCP) is proud to offer a comprehensive music program including Orchestra, Jazz, and Digital Music. 

 

Digital Music

The Introduction to Digital Music class is designed as an overview of the opportunities available at LVCP. Students will receive basic instruction on how to use the Computer lab and its equipment to create and modify audio products. Some of the highlight lessons of the course include: the physics behind sound, the physical parts of a mixer and how to connect them, how to record and edit using software, how to use a microphone effectively, keyboard skills, and how to sequence music using software and samples.

 

Orchestra

The Orchestra consists of student in 9th-12th grade and placement in the group is determined by audition. Members of the ensemble are expected to have skills in sight-reading music and the mechanics of their instrument. Instrumentation may vary, but typical instrumentation includes: Violins, Violas, Cellos, String Bass, Flutes, Oboes and Clarinets. Concerts are held each semester.  The repertoire played in Orchestra includes music spanning the eras of Western Art Music (Early Music to Contemporary) as well as pop and jazz music. Each semester time will set aside to focus on composition as well as Music History

 

Jazz Band

The Jazz Band consists of students in 9th-12th grade and placement in the group is determined by audition. Members of the ensemble are expected to have skills in sight-reading music and the mechanics of their instrument. Instrumentation may vary, but typical instrumentation includes: Drums, Bass, Guitar, Piano, Trumpets, Trombones, Saxophones and Vocalist. Concerts are held each semester. The Jazz Band will be performing “Jazz Standards” including Swing, Big Band, popular music as well as contemporary jazz compositions. Each semester time will set aside to focus on composition as well as Music History.
