GPA Calculations

How to Calculate Your GPA at LVCP

Scale:

A = 4
A- = 3.7
B+ = 3.3
B = 3
B- = 2.7
C+ = 2.3
C = 2
C- = 1.7
D+ = 1.3
D = 1
D- = 0.7
F = 0

Step 1: Add all of your current grades together using the points listed in the scale above.

Honors English
P , A = 4
World History P , B+ = 3.3
Geometry P , A = 4
Advisory   B = 3
Jazz Band P , A = 4
Honors Physics P , C- = 1.7
= 17

Step 2: If you are taking any 11th/12th grade level honors courses, add one more point for each class. If you are taking a college level course, add one point for each class. For our example, Physics gets an extra point since it is an 11th/12th grade level class. English does not get an extra point since it is a 10th grade level class:

Honors Physics P +1   = 21 points total

Step 3: Divide the total points by the total number of classes. In our example, the student has taken six classes.

GPA        =  Total points / Total # of classes  =  21/6

GPA        =  3.5

How to Calculate Your UC GPA

Scale (the plus/minus are not considered):

A+, A-   = 4
B+, B, B- = 3
C+, C, C- = 2
D+, D, D- = 1
F     = 0

Step 1:  Identify which class grades to include.
  • Include classes from your 10th and 11th grade years.
  • Include summer school grades for the summers after 9th, after 10th, and after 11th grade only.
  • Do not include summer school grades for the summer before 9th grade.
  • Do not include grades from your freshman year.
  • Only include A-G course grades. These are the classes with a “P” in their name.

Step 2: Add all of your current grades together using the points listed in the UC scale.

Step 3: Add extra points for honors and college level courses taken in 10th and 11th grade. You are allowed to add a maximum of 8 points. College level courses only get one additional point even though they are awarded two semesters of high school credit.

Step 4: Divide the total points by the total number of classes.

For our example above:

Honors English P , A = 4
World History P , B+ = 3.3
Geometry P , A = 4
Advisory   B = 3
Jazz Band P , A = 4
Honors Physics P , C- = 1.7
= 17

Plus one for Physics = 18 points

18 points / 5 classes = 3.6

UC GPA  =  3.6
