Academic Counseling

The LVCP Counseling Department uses the American School Counseling Association National Model to drive the foundation for a comprehensive school counseling program. The idea is to use data to meet student needs in a more preventative role than a reactive role. Data taken from classroom guidance presentations, in the form of pre/post tests, and also data from the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS), the California English Language Development Test (CELDT), California Standards Test (CST/STAR), the PSAT, and quarterly grades are fundamental in assessing the school’s needs.

The counseling department’s academic focus is to ensure that LVCP's students receive appropriate college preparatory academic counseling services so they graduate eligible to apply to any of the 33 University of California and California State Universities. Courses that students take at LVCP in their course of study are A-G courses, also known as the "college bound" path. The A-G courses are the required courses that students must take in order to be eligible to apply to University of California (UC) colleges and California State University (CSU) colleges.
